I'm not a pilot so help me understand this... If a pilot is experiencing issues, like your aircraft is not 100%, why wouldn't you take it to the closest runway? This pilot had a runway close by but chose DFW instead. I don't understand that. If my car is breaking down, I want to pull it off the road immediately.

3:58 faintly in the background you can hear a morse signal. It says 'DE W[unintelligable]. Planes don't use morse anymore, right? Sounds like intermodulation from another transmitter

Wondering how current she was in that aircraft, or whether she was close to the amount of time before needing a check ride? Might add a bit of context to her overall fitness and whether she might have been flying from a genuine desire to fly that day, or just to "get it out-of-the way."

Speaking fast and articulating so you can be understood and processed by the human brain are two different things. She's speaking too damn fast to be understood. Everything is run together; even when you listen very hard. Not only that, the static noise of these radios is pathetic for the 21st century.

One time I was out puttering around east of the DFW airspace, maybe I was on a solo student cross country. The radio was really quiet, nobody had said anything for several minutes as I was coming up on Rockwall Airport. I made my initial call about 10 miles out, and pretty soon someone else made a call, and all of a sudden there were 4 or 5 pilots out there piping up, stating their locations and intentions. Seemed like everybody was thinking the same thing, they were all wondering where everybody was!

By hearing both pilots voices I reckon they are only operational (ICAO 4) and were not used to fly abroad very frequently. Confusing certain words (actual requests) with instructions. In Brazil is not usual to receive vectors unless you are in a collision route or you are completely lost. Maybe if you have a PAN PAN…apart from that, there was not any sign of TA/RA so I got really worried about the Southwest communication mubbling about on the radio with probably 180 pax (much more than the Phenom)…

No one else seems to have commented on the runway numbers. This is the runway combination I like to call the dyslexic nightmare. One direction is runway 13. The other direction is runway 31. 30% of the population has some level of dyslexia, and it is very easy for that population to mix these ru ways up. I wonder if that might have happened here. Just because some one radios "Runway 3-1", doesn't mean a pilot may have heard, "Runway 1-3". That may have been a contributing factor. Also, this would not be the first time e a live ATC receiver missed a radio call. It happens constantly on the recordings of my local CTAF.

I’ve been both a private, Air Force, and commercial pilot for the better part of 40 years. Yelling at someone about what they were previously cleared for solves nothing. Tell them what to do NOW to avoid an accident and yell at them later. That’s why they’re taught to give them the phone number for pilot deviations. So they don’t try to punish them in the moment. This woman does a horrible job.

This is disconcerting to hear. If this pilot is that incapable of the IFR comms procedure then he is a risk to himself and everyone else. Also, for other aircraft (with their engines running), waiting for clearance, this is costing a bunch of money. Don't get me started. There's also something *really* selfish and self-centered about this pilot.

Love how many commenters just assume this is some reckless dolt who should go to jail if caught. Like, it a group of people are clever and diligent enough to create a functioning jetpack, and to test it discreetly - you'd think they are actually smart enough to do it safely, stay out of traffic's way, etc. Motorcyclists get similar crap a lot. People who never bothered to figure out how to drive a stick shift can't wrap their head around the idea that someone doing something that they have neither the skills nor balls to do is actually skilled and competent, and spent a lot of time and effort acquiring the skills to do it, and do it safely at the very least for their own sake. But no. Gotta label them as reckless dolts and hate on them. Sigh.
